James Gregory was born in Birmingham in 1969, grew up in Derbyshire and Staffordshire and now lives and works in Llantwit Major, South Wales. He studied fine art at Staffordshire Polytechnic from 1986 to 1990 and has made art ever since.

"Human beings have made images and objects for approximately 65,000 years. We have always had a desire to depict what we see in a form that is "other" from reality. By developing an expertise with various media we were able to construct images and objects depicting deities and pleasing objects which had value in and of themselves. Over time the people that created these objects became as interesting as the objects themselves and became known as artists. Once the artists had mastered how to make something look real they began painting and sculpting images and objects that didn't look like something we would recognise and that had a less easily definable meaning. These were even more valuable than any images produced before because those who weren't artists and had lots of money were desperate to own them. With that in mind here are my images and objects."
